Andrew Keogh
Andrew Keogh was born in Dunedin in 1985 where he lives and creates artwork today. His work is done entirely in vibrant coloured pencil on cartridge paper and demonstrates a remarkable eye for geometry and a striking memory for detail, especially of structures. Andrew (who lives with autism) has a very unique world-view and uses his artwork to process and express his daily life and experiences.
Andy's skills in achieving perfect proportion from memory are impressive and rare. His work has the unpretentious charm of raw art, gives an insight into how he sees the world and at the same time features images iconic to New Zealanders – from his private holiday caravan or a vulnerable Christchurch Cathedral to the distinctive architecture of Dunedin, or the Auckland Skytower.
Most pieces feature dates and keywords both on the back and front which give extra insight into the snapshot of his life Andrew is sharing through each work. Many works are for sale, and those interested in viewing more of Andrew’s work should contact the Margaret Freeman Gallery.
Graeme Russell
Graeme has been attending Studio2 for many years and is known for his striking portraiture, of which he is very prolific – sometimes producing up to 8 portraits in a 3 hour art session. Many of Graeme’s works are self- portraits, and he can often be seen in the studio quietly studying himself in a mirror. Other portraits are of his fellow artists, friends, flatmates, support staff and other people close to Graeme’s heart. Each work is dedicated with love to its subject. Graeme’s attention to detail and unpretentious style results in charming, honest and unique work that often invokes a strong response from those who view it.
Graeme identifies strongly as an artist and takes great pleasure in sharing his work with others and receiving their feedback – he may even have you sit for a portrait if you call into the studio on a Wednesday morning for a cup of coffee with us.
